The Long Awaited Day
Well - the day that I knew was fast approaching, finally happened. This past Monday morning, I made the walk to my son's new elementary school to register him for kindergarten.
I thought I had given myself plenty of time (as I arrived one hour before the school opened) but I was very suprised with what I discovered when I arrived....
There was a lineup of parents at the entrance of the school. Many had chairs, blankets and hot coffee to keep them warm. I didn't even have breakfast.
One parent felt sorry for the few who came unprepared (like me) and walked down the line with donuts to share.
Some parents had laptops to watch movies - while others had books to read. Apparently some had arrived several hours ago - to ensure their child received a morning spot.
To be honest, I wasn't sure if I really wanted a morning or afternoon, but after making a count of parents ahead of me - I realized that I would be very far down the list for a morning spot. Good thing my son has been attending afternoon preschool...
After waiting an hour in line, we were ushered in to fill out an application (which took less than ten minutes) - and then it was over. My son is now officially enrolled in kindergarten, and it seem like it was only yesterday that I was holding him in my arms and rocking him to sleep.....:( I heard a great saying the other day from a mom which I think is appropriate here:
"The days are long...but the years are short".
And I think every mom out there can relate to that!
