Classic Copy Cats

sex and the cityWow - I can't believe it's already February1st!!! It seems like January just flew by! Now with both my son and husband on the mend...it would appear that my daughter and I have switched places with them.

She has a terrible chest cold, and I have a terrible sore throat. I knew this would happen! So as a result - these past couple of days, I have become a couch potatoe in the evenings (and its made me feel even worse).

Why? Because I've been forced to watch some tv. I'm not a huge tv fan but I admit there are a few television shows that are near and dear to my heart. I would even go so far as to say that certain shows (that are now in syndication) I can watch over and over again and never grow tired.

One of my guilty pleasures is when I'm sick, I will pop in an old "Sex and the City" DVD that I own, and watch a favourite episode. I'm a big fan of the "Carrie and BIG" episodes and of course, who could forget the interesting conversations that went on during coffee or lunch between Miranda, Carrie, Samantha and Charlotte?

So it behoves me to mention that while sitting on the couch this week- I noticed some Copy Cats that have cropped up to try and take its place. One is called "Cashmere Mafia". It stars Lucy Lui and a few unknowns. They've even gone as far as to have four female cast members. I watched a part of one episode...there's twenty minutes I'll never get back.

The other one is called "Lipstick Jungle". It hasn't come out yet - I think it is beginning in February. It stars Brooke Shields who I think has been dying for some sort of role since her Tom Cruise incident. There's only three female characters in this one but looks like another rip off of the original.

I don't know what is more insulting - the fact they are trying to copy a classic, very original show or the names they have come up with for them...I mean, come on...Lipstick Jungle?

Both of them make the claim they have "Sex and the City" writers...perhaps they should have found new writers who would actually write new material...instead of recycling a great idea whose time has already come and gone and squeeze the last bit of life out of it.

So hopefully this weekend will give my daughter and I some much needed time to rest, recoup and be raring to go next week - and some time for mommy to fit in one or two more classic Sex and the City shows on DVD...now that's gotta make me feel just a little bit better. ;)
