When they asked the little girl where her home was she replied - Where mother is

Valentine's Day has arrived!

HeartsWell, the day of love has finally arrived! Are you feeling the romance in the air? Did your husband or significant other remember to give you something nice? Or perhaps there was an extra kiss or lingering hug as they walked out the door?

Yesterday I visited the Mall to pick up my children some heart-shaped boxes of chocolates from Purdy's. And the lineup was unreal. To get a box wrapped would be a wait of half an hour, and when I was at the till and asked for a small Valentine's card to slip ontop, I was advised they were all sold out...Valentine's madness had already begun....

The reason I say this is because when I used to work at Save On Foods as a young clerk in the deli, I recall seeing dozens of men on Valentine's Day, making a mad dash for the floral department to get their wifes/girlfriends a last minute arrangement. It really was madness because many looked frightened that they would have to either wait too long to get one, or that they wouldn't be able to get one at all.

And then there are the young men like the one that was infront of me in line at Purdy's, who was so overcome with concern that he had no idea where a floral shop was even located. He was much relieved to hear that Save On Foods was in the Mall and had a floral shop too. He said "I would have never thought of a grocery store carried flowers".

Ah, yes - the naive and young...he will learn..grocery stores often are the place where men end up on Valentine's Day, trying to pick through the already "picked through" cards and flowers in an attempt to shower their loved one with affection.

Here's a thought...why not take her to dinner or better yet - make dinner? Make it a romantic night. Scrap the overpriced flowers, cards, and chocolates and just show her that you love her.

I think at the end of the day, that's all we truly want. To just feel loved and appreciated for one day. And there's lots of creative ways to do it, without having to end up at Save On at 7pm at night to do it.

Remember though - if something utterly and truly romantic happens to you today moms, please share it with the rest of us on this blog...we can't help but love a romantic story!
