The Cost of Living

Baby moneyHave you noticed that the cost of living is getting higher and higher - thus making being a stay at home parent even more difficult than ever?

It's a reality for so many of us who want to be closer to home, but find it nearly impossible financially with the rising cost of things like gas, food, and simple necessities of life

So what is a parent to do?...

One of the options that I discovered early on when I made the leap from the corporate world to becoming a stay at home mom was having a home-based business.

It allowed me the freedom to work when I wanted, generate some income on the side and keep a foot hold in the workforce. And I discovered that I actually liked being in business for myself (who knew?!)

I am a writer at heart, and that's where I started - by writing about all my experiences with my children. And after awhile, I decided to send it in to a few newspapers, and was pleasantly surprised when I heard back from one of them. And so began my journey with my own home-based business...

I was employed by the newspaper to write from home, and soon after, I became syndicated - and as I wrote, I began to hear from other moms who were looking for a finanically viable way to be closer to home - thus started my workshops with Women's Enterprise Centre for moms to start their own home -based business.

They started out small - with about 15 women and grew. Over time, they developed in to larger workshops and inspirational luncheons. The largest luncheon I hosted was with Sandra Wilson, Founder of Robeez Baby shoes. I had almost 100 moms attend that one. And then the workshops finally grew into an inspirational Event to support and educate moms in business.

And after discovering how many moms needed ongoing support with their business ideas and growing their business - just like me - I launched Enterprising Moms Network - which provides ongoing support for moms in business through monthly meetings and inspirational events for members.

We are now based in White Rock, Richmond, and soon to be North Vancouver.

And yes - I am still very much a stay at home mom. My days are dedicated to my children and my nights are for my home-based business.

Not all my mom members are home-based, and not all are out of the home, but the point is - all of them are in charge of their hours, their time with their children and have nobody to answer to except themselves.

The concept of being a stay at home mom is evolving - don't believe me? Check out our members and read their stories...you may be surprised to see how many moms are doing it - and doing it well.

So could this be you? Do you want this to be you? Ask yourself this - if you could do anything in the world, what would it be - and then start figuring out a way to make it happen - today.

And if you need a little help along the way - well, that's what Enterprising Moms Network is all about - moms just like you.
