Down Time

The past couple of days has been really nice with my children - just unwinding from all the excitement of Christmas. My son really enjoyed all his gifts from Santa. He also loved seeing the note Santa left for him, with all the cookie crumbs left behind on the "Santa" plate. This Christmas my son seemed to understand a lot more about it, and about it also being the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus. I don't want to overdue it with too much information for him - but I do want him to understand the reason we celebrate the day (not just about Santa and getting gifts).

We had Christmas dinner over at our house this year. It was just my mother and father in law, and my husband's grandma, and my parents. So not a big gathering - but big enough for me to realize that I need to invest in some good plates and glasses. All my stuff is mismatched. We have four of everything, and there were eight of us (including my son) so everyone's plates and glasses did not match. (Good thing it was close family).

The big hits this year for gifts was my son's garbage truck that we bought for him and his Superman shaving kit. My daughter really liked her box with plastic shapes and her first real doll. A lot of stuff she already has, as she has inherited it from my son (a lot of leap frog stuff and learning to count, push toys etc). So buying her gifts for her first Christmas was a bit of a challenge. Her first birthday is on January 17th, so we're going to have to figure out more gifts appropriate for her in the next couple of weeks. I'm very happy though that her birthday wasn't too close to Christmas, as we all know, children who have their birthday at Christmas, always lose out, as people will combine their gifts and Christmas itself overshadows their birthday.

Glad its the weekend and a New Year is almost here. Now that my supposed "down time" has happened - I'm now gearing up for my upcoming lunch and learn with Sandra Wilson on the 20th of January. I'm hoping the weather will agree with the event this time around....
