Thomas the Train

ThomasThomas the train was featured in Squamish this weekend (and last weekend) at the West Coast Historical Park. I had tickets for 12 pm and thought I had given us plenty of time to get there when we left at 10am from White Rock. Not so.

Apparently it takes two hours to get to Squamish from White Rock and it wasn't until after I left that I realized the tickets said "Get there at least ONE hour prior to departure time". And it was pouring rain yesterday too. At 3 minutes to 12pm - we pulled up to the station. I told my husband to jump out with my son and RUN!!!! My daughter and I then proceeded down the one mile road to the parking lot to take a shuttle bus back in the rain.

The train ride itself was 20 minutes long - and yes - they made it on. My daughter and I (who also had tickets) were not so fortunate. So in the meantime, we mulled about in the rain and looked at all the Thomas merchandise they had for sale. (And there was plenty to see under the tent).

There was also a "mini train" that was going around the Park and I thought my daughter would enjoy it. But that too - costs money. And as I had already lost more than $40 on our tickets - I thought the better of it and we just watched from the sidelines. At 16 months old - I know that she was quite content to just run around and see all the other children.

My son loved the ride (even though all it does is back up and go a bit down the track, and then backs up again and returns to the station.) I purchased a small Thomas the train for my daughter and a whistle and t-shirt for my son. I think we got off lightly. :) The McDonald's in Squamish was fanastic though (we stopped there before going home). It has a great indoor playing area for the kids.

This weekend has passed in such a blur and tomorrow is my birthday. Why is it that as we get older - birthdays seem to get less and less fun? :) And of all days for my birthday to be on this year - it falls on a MONDAY! Here's hoping that the day isn't a typical Monday and that the rain that has been hitting us this past week will lift for a bit tomorrow.

I don't have anything special planned (other than a nice home cooked meal at my parents with a Dairy Queen ice cream cake that I get EVERY year from my mom). I am a sucker for the ice cream cake - even though I eat only one piece and nobody else really likes it (except my son) - I just have to have it! :)
