Good News to Share!

Good newsIf you recall, seven months ago, a little boy named Jason Knee was struck down in a cross walk by a hit and run driver in Port Coquitlam - and never came forward to take responsibility. I have been following his condition and posting it under my April 11th blog entry, up until May, but have not been able to locate any more updates since then.

The good news is that his Uncle Derrick, found this website and was able to provide an update on his condition and recovery since this terrible accident. I am attaching his comments that he posted this past week in my April blog - so readers can share in the update...

Just wanted to update you on Jason's condition. He still has his Trach in, but is walking/running around just like a typical 5 year old. He still walks with a bit of a limp, but hopefully that will disappear with rehabilitaion. He has recently been out of the rehab facility for some day outings, and will be coming home soon. He will eventually be integrated back into daycare, preschool and eventually regular school. He is communicating through his own sign language, and does recognize all his family. Hopefully his trach will be removed sometime in May, but that will be determined sfter his exanimination then. Thank you for all your support you've given and we'll keep you posted on any changes.

Uncle Derrick

I want to thank Uncle Derrick for sharing this information with all of us who have kept Jason in our hearts and our prayers. And let us know if there is anything that we can do to help the family, as Jason continues with his recovery.

I will stress again, that if anyone knows anything about this accident (or witnessed something that may have been missed) to pass it along to the authorities. It happened seven months ago in April in Port Coquitlam, and a little boy's life was almost taken because of it - someone out there knows something... Check out the details again in my April blog....

On another note - I recently blogged about my visit to the Ronald McDonald House and how the non profit organization has a very speacial place in my heart. During my recent visit, I was advised by the Director that they were looking for their long distance calls to be Sponsored as the families need to connect with out of town relatives during their child's treatments at the Vancouver Children's Hospital.

I decided that one way to get the calls covered would be to seek a company with a heart and soul who would care about helping connect loved ones together during such a hard time. And that company was SHAW. And you know what? I recieved an email last week advising that they had received my request and agreed with it. Here is what they had to say:

Hi Kelley,

We received your email dated October 6, 2007 asking for a donation of long distance cards for the Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver. And SHAW agrees it is very important to keep families connected. We will donate 100 twenty minute calling cards to the Ronald McDonald House. Thank you for bringing this important issue to our attention.

The reason I am sharing this with you? One person can help make a difference...each individual does what they can to make the world a better place...so pass it on - and go out of your way to make a difference - you'll be glad you did.

Thanks for posting this Kelley. I only knew Jason and his mom vaguely (they used to come to our busy playgroup once in a while), but I was so heartbroken and upset about this. I wondered how he is and pray for him everytime I drive by that intersection. Good to know he is progressing well.
