Children Authors
This past Thursday when I appeared on Breakfast Television, I had the pleasure of meeting a family, who possess the most amazing story. Their two sons, Ben and David, are children authors and were on BTV to discuss their books. Ben is thirteen and David is fifteen. And yes - both have written and illustrated their own books.
They are on a two year educational odyssey. Their mother home schools them and the family travels the world. Their books reflect their travels and experiences ...and the best part? Proceeds from both books will be going towards Hope for the Nations, Mountain View Conservation Society and the Raincoast Conservation Society.
The boys have appeared on many talk shows and been featured in various newspapers. This past November, the family went to India, to work at an orphanage. Their parents wanted to give their children a global perspective and teach their children that they have a responsibility to contribute to the betterment of other people's lives.
The books themselves are amazing. I have both of them - and they are already my son's favourites (despite the many he received over the Christmas holidays).
The first book by David, is called "Jeffy's World Safari" and is about a twenty year old young man, who travels the world to see how many different different groups of animals he can find. My son loves the drawings in it.
The other book, by Ben, is called "Good-Bye Zoo" and is about a young boy who loves the zoo so much that he doesn't want to leave. He then decides to say good bye to all the animals at the zoo in a humourous and creative way. (My four year old son has already memorized all the different ways to say good-bye in it). The book is illustrated using claymation - (or play dough as my son refers to it).
Although I realize Christmas is over - both these books (which are sold together as a pack) are a must have for children who want to learn about the different animals of the world in super fun way. Check out their website at www.daveandben.com - where you can read more about thier adventures and purchase their books online. And remember - all proceeds from the books go to charity.
A truly inspirational family.... to inspire each one of us to do what we can - to make the world a better place.
