Home Sweet Home
So I am back from vacation and feeling quite relaxed. Although I seem to have brought the flu back with me - so my first day back hasn't been the greatest.
But the Cariboo, where we stayed, along the lake was amazing. It was exactly how I had imagined it to be. We had the lake literally in our back yard, with our own private pier. The children loved it and really were able to experience nature at its best....
Each day, my five year old son and two year old daughter would wake up with me early and slip on their sandals and race down to the lake in their PJs to look at the lake and feel the sunshine on their backs.
My daughter slept great in her new surroundings and really loved being there at the cabin.
We would eat breakfast and change in to our bathing suits (and the children with their life jackets) to play leisurely at the water's edge with fish nets, inner tube for floating along the shore line, and rock collecting (which was very serious business).
Every second day, I stayed true to my exercise regime from Survivor Bootcamp and ran for miles along the dirt road and exercised with weights infront of the lake.
No tv, no cell phone and no radio. We truly felt like we got away from it all. The closest general store was a 20 minute drive. And once when we were low on bread, we drove down there to discover that we were able to get the last bread of the day....all the bread was sold out for the day. :)
That's when you know you are some place very different, that operates on a very different level than you are accustomed to in the city. ;)
Once when I was out for a jog, a huge deer jumped out of the bush from behind me. I think we were both startled. We stared at each other frozen for about a minute, and then just as fast as it appeared, it was gone. I felt like I had experienced something quite amazing - I haven't ever been that close to a deer in my life (within arms length).
My brother in-law had a boat, so we also took the children on it, and did some wake boarding (my legs and arms are still smarting). But it was fun. The owners of the cabin also had a canoe that we took the kids out on for an adventure. I have not done that since I was in high school!
So now, its back to reality - but I truly feel that it was a vacation that was enjoyed by all, and my children have lots of great stories to share for years to come.
