Baby Shower
Today I hosted my sister's baby shower. She is expecting her first child in September. I have been very excited to plan the event, and had all of our friends and family attend.
It's so funny how after we have had our own children, when we encounter a "mom to be", we want to share all our knowledge and wisdom with them in hopes that they will learn from our mistakes....be a bit wiser with motherhood...
However, what truly happens is that the "mom to be" will smile and nod, and hear the words, but until they actually HAVE the baby, do they truly understand the words.
The baby shower was a lot of fun though and brought back some great memories of when I was expecting. I loved being pregnant and I loved the feeling of knowing that there was a life inside of me that I had created.
However, after the baby was born, the "honeymoon" quickly ended for me, and the reality of having to be "on" from morning till night for this new bundle of joy really hit home.
But with all seriousness, my sister has wanted a baby for a very long time, and I know she is going to make a wonderful mom. I just realized the other day that I am going to be an "aunt!" I've never been one, so I am really looking forward to being a big part of my new "neice" or "nephew's" life.
So what was my advice for the new mom-to-be? I told her to just appreciate all the moments with her new baby (the good, the bad and the crazy times) because it all goes by so fast, and before you know it, they aren't a baby anymore, and you are left wondering what happened to the time.
Isn't that true!? :)
