First Day of Kindergarten

The Kissing HandYesterday was my son's first day to kindergarten. It was a day filled with lots of excitement and worry (on my part).

My son embraced the day and woke up early to get a head start. We talked over breakfast about what he could expect and he nodded enthusiastically when asked if he was really looking forward to it....He insisted on choosing his own clothes and getting dressed himself. He wouldn't even let me comb his hair - after all, he was going to kindergarten today....but does that mean he doesn't need my help anymore!?

We headed to school as a family with even his little sister in tow, who insisted that she too, was going to school. I had to explain to her, that she was more of a helper today, then someone who was attending with him - after all, she is only two!

And after the introductions, a book reading of "The Kissing Hand", (see my reference in my last blog) and q & a from the parents (I had a lot of questions) - we were ushered out with our lists of school supplies and agenda for the year. It lasted one half hour in total (gradual entry) to allow for the students to get used to going to school every day now.

All in all, it was a good day. My son only asked me once if he could go back to preschool. :) I told him no, but that we had lots of new things to look forward to with his new school and new friends to make...and that made him smile.

Change is hard for little ones after all - and for big ones - like mommy too.
