Happy Halloween!
I can't believe Halloween is already here! I have to admit - it is my favourite time of year. I have always made Halloween fun at my house.
I decorate it inside and out. In our driveway, it is lined with glowing sculls, in our garden are tombstones and at the doorway is a six foot dancing Frankenstein who sings the "oldies". Inside is filled with cobwebs, skeletons, pumpkins and witches....
We started talking about Halloween in my household about a two months ago. I even bought the kids their costumes (and mine) about six weeks out. We went on the first night the ghost train began a couple of weeks ago in Stanley Park. I can't help it - I love Halloween.
I don't know if it is because for one night you can get dressed up and become someone else or if it is just simply about feeling like a kid again.
Either way - it is great fun for adults and kids alike.
Haven't you noticed that more and more people are starting to put decorations inside and outside their homes now for Halloween? It's almost like Christmas time with the elaborate decorations for Halloween.
Mark my words - one day people will be driving around to see the homes that are decorated the most on Halloween - the way we do with Christmas.
We have so many things in our lives that worry us - stress us out. But for one evening - we get to just be silly and enjoy it with our kids. My six week old nephew even has a costume (he is going as a pumpkin). :)
My son is going as Batman, my daughter is going as Supergirl, and me? Well this year I am going as Wonder woman. So as you can see - we have a bit of a Super hero theme going in our family this year.
I'm a bit worried with all the candy they are going to be collecting. I had one mom tell me that she get her children each year to pick out their favourites and then puts the remaining candy outside on the stairs in a bowl for the "Halloween Witch" to collect. And when the kids get up in the morning - they have either a toy or money in its place. Not a bad idea. ;)
I've got their lighted sticks ready to go that are battery operated, so they don't run out of power (and light) in the middle of their Halloweening. The sticks are worn around their necks. Both my husband and I will be taking turns with walking them around the neighbourhood.
So if you haven't decided yet if you will dress up or not this year - I say - go for it. Make something up and just have some fun. You'll be glad you did - and so will your kids.
