Congratulations Mom - you've delivered Octuplets!
Two days ago in California, a mom made news headlines by delivering eight babies.
Apparently the mother was surprised because she was only expecting seven! Can you imagine going from no kids to eight!? Wow. There are six boys and two girls. Two are on ventilators but the rest appear to be doing fine.....
It was just the second live octuplets birth in U.S. history.
Doctors said the babies, who weighed between 1 pound, 8 ounces, and 3 pounds, 4 ounces, were born nine weeks premature but described their condition as stable.
"The babies are all doing well and the mom is also doing well," Henry said. "There were no complications from the surgery to the best of my knowledge."
Hospital officials would not release the mother's name nor say whether she had used fertility drugs.
My guess would be yes - drugs were involved in this multiple birth.
They did say she planned to breast feed all the children.
She will definitely need a strict schedule - and be feeding for hours on end!
The mother checked into the hospital in her 23rd week of pregnancy and gave birth seven weeks later. The babies will probably remain in the hospital for at least two months and the mother should be released in a week.
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about fertility drugs or the possible health risks to the babies. Is this really a natural and healthy way to conceive children?
I always feel that twins have it rough when they have another sibling who is the same age, and have to share so many special occasions together.
So how would it be for eight!?
Plus how is she going to afford to look after eight babies in this economy? I hope some sponsors step in to help her very large family with diapers, wipees and baby food.
If you, or someone you know has ever used fertility drugs, I invite you to share your opinion on this topic.
