The Exploding Vacuum

vacuumWho ever thought doing house cleaning could be so dangerous? A woman living in Richmond, BC was on the unfortunate end of an exploding vacuum this past week when the cordless vacuum she was using to clean the stairs in her home exploded in her hands.

She received third-degree burns to her left palm and apparently with this particular vacuum model, its happened before.....

The battery of the Electrolux vacuum expanded and burst without warning, creating a force so intense it reshaped the ring on her finger. The explosion also embedded a quarter-sized piece of the vacuum in the wall of her house.

She didn't get hit in the face or eyes, which I think was a miracle.

Electrolux Home Care Products issued a recall on several of its cordless stick vacuums this Thursday, four days AFTER she sustained her injuries.

According to a news release issued by the Canadian subsidiary of the Illinois-based company, the recalled products were sold at Costco, Canadian Tire, the Bay and Sears stores.

The woman was told by doctors that recovery from her burns can take up to a year.

The affected models were sold in Canada from November 2007 to March 2009.

So check out the model of your cordless vacuum and take it back if it fits the above description.

Electrolux requested that the woman send back the vacuum to them directly - big surprise.

She declined - and is seeking legal counsel. And rightfully so.

If she does decide to sue the company, my recommendation would be that on top of a monetary settlement - she demands maid service for the next year, while her burns heal.
