HomeWork Habits

Kelley&Wiliam VanSunToday in the Vancouver Sun, my son was featured in the "Back to School" edition of the newspaper.

Why?

Because he has great homework habits.

I have been so proud of him and how well his has done over the summer.  Despite all the outdoor things we have had him and his sister invovled in over summer - he still wanted to take time to read and practice his math.....

They say that good habits begin at home, and that's really what we've always wanted to do with the kids - establish great routines at home.

And despite being away from school for two months, I didn't want to see those good routines fall to the way-side. It's why we visit the library each week and work on math and word problems together with him.

He is excited to do it and he calls it fun.  It's not a chore to him and its not something that is "work".  It is something that has created a sense of pride for him - and we reinforce that sense of accomplishment by acknowledging it at every opportunity.

Homework is something that is a shared responsibility between the school and parents.

And I'm really glad that he has kept up the good routine over summer and is looking forward to school starting.

He is setting a good example for his four year old sister who watches him - and models herself after him at every opportunity!
