No Such Luck

The past few days I took a trip to Vegas with my husband. It was the first vacation we have taken together in years. I was able to join my husband in Vegas (who there for work) and used my Save On More points for the flight. It was 99,000 points for return airfare. I really felt like my grocery shopping days were finally paying off!
Our ten year anniversary is in February, so I felt like this would be an opportunity to celebrate and spend some nice, quality time together. However, my children - who were being well cared for by their grandparents - soon proved that it was not in the cards for us (so to speak). No sooner had my plane landed and I settled in to my room - that I receive a phone call telling me my son is sick and has a high temperature. Not good. And less than 24 hours after that, I discover that I too, am sick. Vegas was definately not the lucky place to be for me or my family...
So my husband and I spent most of our time sitting in a hotel room, waiting on updates to our son's condition. We finally decided to send my husband home immediately and pay extra, so he could be there with our son. He apparently caught a really bad cold/flu bug and had a high temp (101). My flight was that day as well but just later. So I just stayed in the hotel room trying to catch up on sleep. But sleep never came, as I was also sick. Not fun coming home on a plane alone and sick. I think everyone assumed I was hung over, but the funny thing is I never drank, smoked or gambled while I was in Vegas....don't you think there should be a tshirt for that?
Now that I am home, my son is on the mend and my daughter now has a terrible cold. But at least I am HERE and not somewhere else fretting. Two weeks ago, I had to begin the weening process for my daughter to prepare for this awful trip....I'll have to write about that process in the next blog as it was certainly challenging....
In the meantime, here is a great pic of my daughter from her 1st birthday with her brother. They are holding on to a balloon which ended up floating up to the ceiling and has yet to deflate and come down. I can't reach it, even with a chair. Now it's become a landmarkk every morning, as my daugher points to it and we have to say good morning to the balloon from birthday's past.

Well, better luck next time! It's so true, with or without the kids it seems tough to get away. Maybe there's hope after they're finished high-school:-)

Great job Kelley with your website! I have had similar experiences too. I also went to Vegas and didn't gamble. Maybe we should start a club?
